A nest symbolizes shelter, warmth, togetherness—home. A fence separates and segregates. As a nation of immigrants our country has served as a refuge for many. But sadly, our history is also filled with barriers that divide: sheep herders from cattle ranchers; north from south; black from white; natives from invaders; believers from non-believers. While the forces of hate, fear and prejudice continue to divide, this work is a plea for peaceful co-existence, generosity, and dialogue.
