Aris Georgiades »What goes around comes around«
I am not an environmental scientist. I am a citizen artist who by way of simple observational research gathers source material for my sculptural projects. Over the years my work has been influenced by my experiences and environment. Labor economics and the changing nature of work have been a concern of mine for twenty years. Recently I have been interested in how our economy is drastically changing the landscape. Generally we find ourselves as spectators rather than participants in the natural environment. Since the dawn of the industrial revolution we have viewed nature as an unlimited resource to be used and manipulated as we wish. In my daily life and in my art practice I now try to be conscious of these issues. When working in a natural environment it is always my desire to be sensitive to environmental concerns and try to work in a more holistic and sustainable fashion.
Aristotle Georgiades received a B.F.A. from the University of Michigan and an M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He is currently a professor of Art/ Sculpture at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. His work ranges from issues of male identity, labor economics, and more recently, the changing American landscape in a post-industrial economy. He works in wood, metal, and recycled architectural materials.
Mr. Georgiades has exhibited his sculptural works nationally and internationally for over twenty years. He recently participated in ?Stadt Paradies? in Darmstadt, Germany, and had a one-person show at the James Watrous Gallery at the Overture Center in Madison, WI. He is also part of the collaborative public art team Actual Size Artworks that has been producing permanent and temporary public works for over twelve years.
